On 31st October 2009, I took part in the Barcelona  Mediterranean Editors and Translators Meeting where I presented, together with a colleague from the Masters, a project undertaken during the 2008-2009 academic year  entitled “’Dare to edit’ Translators as editors – the student’s experience”, based on a paper carried out during the first semester of the university course.

This project, the final paper of the Reverse Specialist Translation course, consisted in the translation, from Spanish to English, of the first chapter of a hydraulic pumps handbook addressed at first year Engineering students at an English university.

With this project, we analyzed the role of the translator during the edition of a translated text, considering the constraints, freedoms and criteria for translator’s choices within a specialist and technical translation context.

During the days 11th and 14th June 2010, I worked as a volunteer interpreter (English<>Spanish) for the Barcelona’s department of Médecins Sans Frontières.

Médecins Sans Frontières wanted to give more importance to the opinions and knowledge of its “national staff”, namely native professionals working for the association’s projects. For this reason, MSF invites a group of professional to participate at their annual meeting.

For this “national staff”, MSF organizes a two days training seminar, in order to discuss organizational issues that deal with, among others things, associative aspects, presentation of medical, operational and communicative priorities.

People attending this seminar belong to different nationalities and, since the course is in English, Spanish and French interpreters are needed
